Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Madam,
I came to know through an advertisement that you need a househelp for few hours a day next summer. I want to add that I am already experienced in house chores as I am practicing such kind of jobs from last five years. I am expert in cooking as well as managing other tasks in routine.
Moreover, I am interested in this job because i am already doing a job near your house in the evening so it will be easy for me to come to your place. Additionally, i can share reference of the house as well if you want to inquire about my work. Another reason to get this job is to submit the dues for my son's university fee which is due after summer.
I want to add that I am going to available all days of the week except for Sunday as I fixed that day to spend with my children. If it will be convenient for you please let me know the date of joining and other requirement so that I can plan accordingly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you offer cooking and household help, explain that you already work nearby and need to pay your son’s university fees, and state that you are available every day except Sunday. These details make the purpose clear and are relevant to Mrs Barrett’s advertisement. The explanation of your experience is useful, though “managing other tasks in routine” is not specific about which chores you can do. Your reasons for wanting the work are clear, but the financial reason could be expressed more tactfully in a formal application. The closing asks about a start date and requirements, which is appropriate. To strengthen the letter further, develop the practical offer with a few examples of household tasks and use the requested opening, “Dear Mrs Barrett,” rather than “Dear Madam.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible order: you introduce the advertisement and your experience, explain your reasons for applying, then give your availability and ask about next steps. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Additionally” make relationships between ideas clear. However, several transitions feel formulaic, and repeated openings such as “I want to add” make the progression less natural. The reference to your evening job and the nearby location could be connected more directly to your proposed working hours. The final request is understandable, but a conventional closing would make the letter feel more complete. For a stronger, more flexible flow, vary the links and use clearer references between related details rather than relying on repeated introductory phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate your experience, motivation and schedule, including “house chores,” “reference,” and “convenient.” There are also attempts to use more formal expressions, such as “I came to know through an advertisement.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise for a job application: “househelp,” “practicing such kind of jobs,” and “submit the dues” do not sound idiomatic in this context. “Managing other tasks in routine” is also vague. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for familiar, accurate collocations for domestic work and employment, and choose wording that is polite and professional rather than translating expressions directly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “as,” and most of the message remains easy to follow. Some grammatical errors are present, particularly in verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “I am going to available” needs a form of “be” before “available,” while “If it will be convenient for you” would be more naturally formed with a present-tense verb in the conditional clause. The sentence beginning “I want to add that I am already experienced…” also combines several ideas in a way that is difficult to control. Capitalisation of “I” is inconsistent. Review conditional forms, verb patterns and punctuation, while continuing to use complex sentences; greater accuracy would make the letter more polished.
