Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing to you upon receiving the news that you need help in your new home for few hours a day next summer and I would like nominate myself for the role. I live in the neighnourhood and it is feasible for me to come to your house in no time. Moreover, I can help you settle down by placing furniture to adjusting kitchen utensils, and managing house chores to adjusting with the new place. I am usually free in the summer as I am on my holidays from the office, I want to be really productive and helpful for someone. I am available from Monday to Friday's, as on weekends I am mostly occupied with catching up with friends, so I can not be there on weekends.
Looking forward to hearing from you and getting you settled, hopefully.
Warm Regards,
Emma Collins

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three bullet points: you offer help with furniture, kitchen items and household chores, explain that you want to be productive and helpful, and state that weekdays suit you but weekends do not. However, some details are less fully developed: the reason for wanting the work is brief, and your availability would be clearer with specific hours or dates. The response is also three words below the required 150-word minimum, so add a little relevant detail—for example, what tasks you have experience with or the hours you could work. The purpose and overall offer are clear, but fuller, more precise information would make the letter more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible order: you introduce your offer, describe possible duties, explain your motivation and availability, then close politely. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “as” help connect the ideas, and the message is easy to follow overall. To make the progression more polished, separate the main points into short paragraphs rather than presenting nearly all the information in one block. Some connections are also awkward, particularly the sequence “placing furniture to adjusting kitchen utensils, and managing house chores to adjusting with the new place”; clearer sentence boundaries and parallel phrasing would improve cohesion. Your closing is appropriate, though it could be more directly linked to the request for a reply.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the situation, including “settle down,” “house chores,” “productive,” and “occupied,” and your meaning remains clear. There are also attempts at more specific language about helping with furniture and kitchen items. Some choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “nominate myself for the role” is not the usual way to offer your services, and “adjusting kitchen utensils” does not clearly describe arranging them. “Neighbourhood” is misspelled as “neighnourhood,” while “from Monday to Friday’s” uses an unnecessary apostrophe. Choose natural phrases for offering help and describe tasks precisely; this would make the vocabulary more fluent and appropriate to a formal letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the opening clause “upon receiving the news” and the explanation of your weekend commitments. The main message is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “for few hours” needs an article, and “I would like nominate myself” needs “to” before the verb. The construction “from placing furniture to adjusting kitchen utensils” should use parallel forms, while “I am available from Monday to Friday’s” has an incorrect possessive form. Consider breaking up the long second sentence and checking articles, infinitives and parallel structures. These revisions would improve accuracy while preserving your range of sentence forms.
