Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing this to express my strong interest in the part-time house helper service advertisement which you had posted in the newspaper. As you need someone to work for few hours in coming summer. I think I would be the best fit for this role.
You should consider me because I am excellent in house help services. I can do laundary, cooking, cleaning, etc. I am bachelor, living in the city so I have experience doing these work.
This summer I was planning to do part-time job. As I need to pay fees of my coming semister in the month of January. I also have free time in summer that I don't want to waste.
I would also like to inform you that I will be available from 2pm till 8pm in the summer, and won't be able to commit anythinb prior to 2pm as I have summer classes in those hours.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Shenaz Ansari

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you offer household tasks such as laundry, cooking and cleaning, explain that you want to earn money for your semester fees, and give your available hours. The purpose of the letter is clear and the details are relevant. The explanation of your motivation is reasonably specific, while your suitability and availability could be developed further: for example, clarify what experience you have and whether you are available on particular days or throughout the summer. The opening and closing are appropriate, though “As you need someone…” reads as an incomplete sentence rather than a smooth introduction. More fully developed details would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement, moving from your interest and suitability to your reasons for applying and then your schedule. Paragraph breaks help the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “I am writing this” and “I would also like to inform you” signal the purpose of each section. Some connections are less smooth, however. “As you need someone to work for few hours in coming summer” is separated from the sentence it depends on, and the transition from your experience to your financial reason is abrupt. Use complete sentences and link related points more naturally—for instance, connect your household experience directly to the tasks you can offer. This would make the progression feel less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “part-time,” “laundry,” “cooking,” “cleaning,” and “available.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “house helper service advertisement,” “excellent in house help services,” and “commit anything prior to 2pm” do not sound idiomatic in this context. There are also spelling errors, including “laundary,” “semister,” and “anythinb.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they are noticeable. Aim for straightforward, natural phrases such as “household chores,” “experienced in cooking and cleaning,” and “I am unavailable before 2 p.m.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer structures, and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors are noticeable, particularly in sentence boundaries and sentence construction. “As you need someone to work for few hours in coming summer” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence; it could be joined to the following sentence. Similarly, “As I need to pay fees…” is a fragment, and “I am bachelor” needs an article. In “I have experience doing these work,” the plural form is needed. Review articles, plural agreement, and the use of subordinate clauses, while keeping the useful variety of sentence forms you attempt.
