Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing this email because I saw you the poster that you are looking for help for coming summer. I would like to inform you that I am very happy to help you.
I am a student at Brantford University and I will be on my summer break. I can help you in various chores such as gardening, cleaning, mopping as well as trim your trees.
During this time, I can make some extra money which is going to help me for my tution fees. Additionally, my upcoming assignment is also related to helping your community member. So, I would like to apply that experience on my papers to get a good grades.
Furthermore, I will be available on Thursday, Friday and Sunday while I may not be fully available on Monday between 9am to 3pm, and on Tuesday between 1pm to 6pm.
I hope to hear back from you soon.
Kind regards,
Tanu

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you offer household help, explain that you want to earn money for tuition and gain experience, and give days and time periods when you are available or less available. The specific chores—“gardening, cleaning, mopping”—make your offer relevant. This meets the task well, but some ideas are less fully developed than others. For example, “helping your community member” and applying the experience “on my papers” do not clearly explain how the work relates to your assignment. Also, “not be fully available” on Monday and Tuesday leaves Mrs Barrett unsure whether you could work at all during those hours. Clarifying your exact availability and making the reason for wanting the job more directly relevant would strengthen the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression: you introduce your interest, describe the help you can provide, explain your motivation, and finish with your schedule and a polite closing. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “Furthermore” help connect related points. The overall organisation is easy to follow. To make the progression more natural, avoid using a formal connector where a simple transition would work better, and keep each paragraph focused on one purpose. The motivation paragraph combines earning money with an assignment-related reason, but the connection between these ideas is not fully clear. A more direct transition into your availability, followed by precise time details, would make the letter feel more cohesive and reader-focused.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “various chores,” “summer break,” and “available.” The list of tasks gives Mrs Barrett a clear sense of the help you could offer. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “I saw you the poster,” “trim your trees,” and “apply that experience on my papers” do not sound natural in this context. There is also a spelling error in “tution.” Aim for familiar, accurate expressions rather than trying to make the wording sound formal. More precise phrases for household tasks, your reason for applying, and your schedule would make the letter more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, such as “During this time, I can make some extra money which is going to help me…” and the sentence contrasting your available and less available days. The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors persist. For example, “I saw you the poster” has an incorrect sentence structure, and “get a good grades” has an article and plural agreement problem. The availability sentence also needs clearer grammatical framing so the reader can tell whether you are unavailable during those periods. Review sentence patterns after verbs such as “see,” and check articles and singular/plural agreement. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
