Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The letter makes a basic attempt to contact Mrs Barrett and mentions that you have time during the vacation, but it does not adequately address the main requirements. You do not explain what household tasks you could perform, and your reason for wanting the work is only implied by having free time; it would help to state a clear motivation. Availability is also incomplete: “there is no school because of the vacation” gives some context, but you do not specify when you can work or when you are unavailable. The response is also below the required 150 words, leaving little room to develop these points. Add specific duties, a direct reason, and clear days or hours of availability.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The message follows a simple letter-like sequence: an opening, a brief description of your circumstances, and a closing. This gives the reader a basic sense of the purpose. However, the ideas are not grouped or developed clearly, and the transition from your student and part-time work situation to asking about pay is abrupt. The sentence beginning “This is my phone number” is incomplete because no number is provided, which interrupts the flow. Use separate paragraphs for your offer of help, your motivation and schedule, and your closing. Linking phrases such as “I would be available…” and “I am interested because…” would make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use a small set of relevant words, including “student,” “part-timer,” “vacation,” and “help,” so the general situation is understandable. However, the vocabulary is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “advertise Post for Need help at you home” and “hear back for you.” Spelling errors, including “resturant,” “beacuse,” and “phkne,” also reduce the clarity and control of the writing. To improve, use precise household vocabulary such as “cleaning,” “cooking,” or “running errands,” and natural expressions such as “I saw your advertisement for help at home” and “I look forward to hearing from you.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response uses mostly short, simple sentences, with one attempt to connect ideas using “But” and “So.” Some basic meaning is clear, but errors in sentence structure, verb forms, articles, and punctuation are frequent enough to make parts difficult to read. For example, “I hope your doing okay” needs the possessive “you’re,” while “We both live in same town” is missing an article. The opening also joins separate sentences with a comma: “I hope your doing okay, My name is Gurjot.” Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with clauses such as “Because I have no classes during the vacation, I can work…”
