Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing this letter in response of your adverts in newspaper, regarding you require assistance for house chores for couple of hours during upcoming summer time, and I will be available for help you in this period.
I want to suggest you that I not only have an excellent culinary skills in cooking different types of cuisins, but also I know housekeeping, as I work in a famous hotel chain named Ramada, where I learnt all the skills.
I would prefer to assist you because I have a summer vacations from work, and it is convenient to visit your home because we live in the same town. Moreover, I am a student, and I want to earn money for paying my tution fee. Consequently, hiring me will reduce my stress level related paying fees.
I will be available for work in the morning time from 8am to 11.30am, because at 12pm I have a tution class, which is essention for building my career. I will not be available from 12pm to 3pm. However, I would have time to help in the evening for few hours.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Sandeep kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you offer cooking and housekeeping, explain your motivation through your summer break and tuition costs, and give both morning and evening availability while identifying a period when you cannot work. The details about your hotel experience and living in the same town make the offer relevant and credible. Your purpose and willingness to help remain clear throughout. To make the response more fully developed, clarify the exact days or dates you are available and whether the evening hours are an alternative to the morning schedule. The reason for wanting the work is relevant, though the point about reducing stress could be explained more naturally and directly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression: you introduce your response, describe your skills, explain your reasons, and then set out your schedule before closing politely. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Consequently,” and “However” help connect ideas. The reader can follow the main message without difficulty. Some connections are less smooth because several points are packed into long sentences, particularly in the opening paragraph and the explanation of your availability. The contrast between being unavailable from noon to 3 p.m. and being able to help in the evening could also be made more explicit. Shorter sentences and clearer links between schedule details would make the organisation more effortless.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the letter, including relevant terms such as “housekeeping,” “culinary skills,” “hotel chain,” and “tuition fee.” These choices communicate your experience and motivation, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce naturalness: “in response of your adverts,” “house chores,” “cuisins,” and “tution” are examples. “Summer vacations from work” is also an awkward way to describe your time off. Aim for accurate, natural phrases rather than adding more elaborate vocabulary; proofreading spelling and checking common word partnerships would improve precision while preserving your clear message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including “because” clauses and the paired construction “not only … but also.” Most of the message remains understandable, and you use paragraphing and sentence punctuation to separate the main points. Some grammatical errors persist, however. For example, “I will be available for help you” needs an infinitive construction (“available to help you”), while “I not only have … but also I know” is not parallel in structure. The opening sentence also combines several ideas in a way that makes its grammar difficult to control. Review articles, agreement, and clause structure, and divide long sentences where needed. This would make your varied sentence forms more consistently accurate.
