Dear Mrs Barrett,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mrs Barrett,

I'm writing to show my interest in the house help position which is been advertised by you on facebook marketplace.

I believe that I can perform all the duties that were mentioned in the advertisement as I have been working as a part-time house maid since five years in Ajax. I have worked with many indian families and their job requirements are almost similar to yours, such as cooking, folding laundry and cleaning etc. Also, I am good in cooking indian meals as per the ad you need a person who cooks indian food. These are the all the chores that I can do for you.

Personally, I would love working at your house because I was looking for a occasional job closer to my house and luckily yours place is 1 km away from me and I can walk to your house, which can save my travelling time. Moreover, you wrote that you are a vegan family and being an vegetarian I always prefer to work with vegan or vegetarian families as I cannot cook meat. Hence, I think this job is a best match for me.

Well, before interview I want to share my availability with you. I can work only on weekdays evenings and anytime on the weekends, but I'm not available on weekdays mornings as I work with two different families during mornings as a nanny.

Please feel free to email me at nikita.ca for any further inquiry.

Yours Faithfully,

Nikita

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three points clearly: you describe relevant duties such as cooking, laundry and cleaning, explain your interest through the short distance and your vegetarian preferences, and specify weekday-evening and weekend availability while ruling out weekday mornings. The examples about your previous work with families and your nanny commitments make your suitability and schedule credible. Your purpose remains clear throughout, and the letter is appropriately directed to Mrs Barrett. To strengthen the response further, develop the practical offer a little more—for example, indicate which duties you would prioritise or how many hours you could work. The reason that the household is vegan is relevant, though the connection to your own dietary preference could be expressed more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: you introduce your interest, explain your experience and motivation, give your availability, and close with an invitation to contact you. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Also,” “Moreover,” and “Hence” help show how your points relate. The schedule is especially easy to follow because you state both when you can work and when you cannot. At times, however, the links feel somewhat formulaic, and the second paragraph contains several ideas in one long sequence. You could improve flow by grouping your experience and specific duties separately from your personal reasons, and by using a more direct transition into your availability.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including relevant terms such as “part-time,” “folding laundry,” “vegan,” and “availability.” These make your experience and circumstances understandable. There are also some imprecise or unnatural choices, such as “house help position,” “job requirements,” and “a occasional job”; these reduce the naturalness of the letter, although the meaning remains clear. “Household assistant” or “domestic helper,” “duties,” and “an occasional job” would be more idiomatic. Check spelling and capitalisation in “Facebook” and “Indian,” and avoid the awkward phrase “These are the all the chores.” More accurate collocations and word forms would make your vocabulary more flexible and polished.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “as,” and “which,” so you can explain reasons and connect details. Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “which is been advertised” has an incorrect verb form; “since five years” uses the wrong tense pattern for a duration; and “I am not available on weekdays mornings” has an agreement or number error. Articles are also inaccurate in “a occasional job” and “a best match.” Review present perfect forms with “for” when describing duration, and check articles and plural forms before submitting. Greater accuracy across these patterns would improve control while preserving your varied sentence structures.
