Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mrs Barrett,

I am writing this letter for replying your advertising related work which I can do at your home.

I am part-time student at CBU and I have my summer vacation right now. So I am free and want to do some activities in this time. I have knowledge regarding basic house-hold chores like moping, cleaning and repairing. I did this things on regular basis at my home and I can assist you with that.

I like to do this things because it enhances my skills as well as provides me a sense of satisfaction. Additionaly, my mother told me that if you help anyone with the good intention, it will

always come back with fruitful way. This motivation always gives me extra energy to do this kind of works.

Most of the weekends, I am available for helping you at your home. I also would available after 5 p.m. as my regular job will over after that time.

Looking forward to your response,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you offer help with household chores, explain that you want to use your free time and gain satisfaction, and give some information about when you can work. The examples of cleaning and helping at home make your offer relevant. However, the availability is not fully clear: “Most of the weekends” and “after 5 p.m.” do not specify which days you cannot work, and the reference to a “regular job” is not explained alongside your student status and summer vacation. The reason for wanting the work is also somewhat general. Clarifying your schedule and adding a specific reason, such as gaining practical experience or earning money, would develop the response more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce your response, describe your skills, explain your motivation, and finish with availability and a closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these separate points, and phrases such as “So” and “because” show basic links between ideas. The progression is generally easy to understand, though some connections feel mechanical or unclear. For example, the shift from being a student on summer vacation to having a “regular job” is not explained, and the final availability details could be organised more precisely. The sentence about your mother’s advice also interrupts the focus on your own reasons. More direct transitions and a clearer order for your schedule would make the cohesion more flexible and natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “house-hold chores,” “sense of satisfaction,” and “motivation.” There are also attempts to use more specific language about the work you can do. However, several word choices, collocations, and spelling errors make the letter sound less natural, such as “moping” for “mopping,” “I did this things,” and “this kind of works.” “Advertising related work” is also an awkward way to refer to the advertised position, while “fruitful way” does not express the intended meaning idiomatically. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your offer, but they limit precision. Focus on accurate everyday collocations and check spelling and singular/plural forms when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including a reason clause with “because” and a conditional sentence beginning “if you help anyone.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in basic patterns. For example, “I am part-time student” needs an article, “I did this things” has a number-agreement problem, and “I also would available” is missing a verb. In “as my regular job will over,” the verb phrase is incomplete. The sentence ending “it will always come back” also needs clearer grammatical reference to the intended idea. Improving articles, verb forms, and agreement while retaining your longer sentence structures would make the letter more accurate.
