Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mrs Barrett,

I would be glad to extend my help at your home next summer if you would like!

Considering my skills of performing gardening, housekeeping, laundry and other household chores, I could be helpful in finishing routine tasks that could give you more time to relax and do extra activities like reading, cooking and more. Moreover, I have driver's license too which can helpful if you need me to do quick groceries while I am at your house.

As a student studying in social healthcare course this will equip me with the needed skills to communicate effectively with people, horning my caretaking skills and helping needed individuals in our community.

My availability is all weekdays after 4 pm and saturday morning from 11AM to 1PM excluding sunday and other times to continue my study and other routine activites in my daily life.

Let me know if you have more questions about my ability to fulfill your house duties and I will get back to you with more information.

Thanks for consideration.

Kind Regards,

Emily

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points and maintain a clear, polite purpose throughout. The proposed help is specific, including gardening, housekeeping, laundry and grocery trips, while your social healthcare studies give a relevant reason for wanting the work. You also state weekday and Saturday availability and identify Sunday and other times as unavailable. These details make the letter useful to Mrs Barrett. Some ideas could be developed more fully: for example, you could clarify which household tasks you are most experienced in, and make the availability easier to interpret by specifying the exact weekday hours and what “other times” means. Overall, the response covers the task clearly, though a few details remain general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: you offer help, describe your skills, explain your motivation, give your availability and close by inviting further questions. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these distinct points, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “As a student” show how the ideas relate. The overall organisation is effective and the tone remains consistent. Some connections could be smoother: the long sentence beginning “Considering my skills” combines several chores with the benefit to Mrs Barrett, and the availability sentence is difficult to follow because it places working times and study commitments together. Breaking these into shorter, more clearly ordered statements would make the cohesion feel less effortful.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including “household chores,” “routine tasks,” “availability” and “caretaking skills.” These choices communicate your abilities and motivation, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “extend my help,” “performing gardening,” “quick groceries” and “fulfill your house duties.” There are also spelling or word-form slips, including “horning” and “activites.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Prefer familiar, accurate collocations for a job application letter, and proofread spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional offer (“if you would like”) and a relative clause describing tasks that could give Mrs Barrett more time. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors are present. For example, “which can helpful” needs a verb form such as “which can be helpful,” and “As a student studying in social healthcare course this will equip me” lacks a clear grammatical link between the course and the benefit. The availability sentence also needs clearer sentence structure and punctuation. Aim to check articles, auxiliary verbs and clause boundaries, and divide long sentences where several ideas are competing for attention.
