Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mrs Barrett

I hope you are doing well

I am writing this letter to express my interest in the advertisement you made for helping you in your household chores for couple of hours in the upcoming summer.

I am pleased to let you know that I have been responsible for my backyard since I turned 18.will cut not only grass but also unwanted plants, giving a nice look to your backyard. Moreover, I own grass-cutter machine and have some vegetables seeds that can be grown only in summer.

The main reason why i am interested in this work is that I will get an opportunity to make some money which can be saved for buying daily usable things. Also, I want to open my lawn care business in future. This job will allow me to gain hands-on experience, and if you like my work, I will get confidence to do even better in future.

Most probably I will be free next summer due to my college break. However, we all friends are making a plan to go on tour for couple of weeks in the month of august. So, It would be better if you plan to do your work before august at any day according to your convenience

Thanks for your understand and please let me know when you decide

Yours faithfully,

Manpreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you offer to mow the grass and remove unwanted plants, explain your interest in earning money and gaining experience for a future lawn-care business, and identify August as a period when you will be away. These details make your offer relevant and give the reader a clear sense of your motivation. The availability information is somewhat less precise than the other points: “Most probably I will be free next summer” is uncertain, and “before august at any day” does not specify your usual daily hours or clearly confirm when you can start. State your regular availability and the exact dates you will be unavailable to make the offer more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression from your offer, to your reasons for applying, and then to your availability. Paragraphing supports this structure, and linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “The main reason,” and “However” help connect related ideas. The reader can follow the message throughout. Some connections are less smooth: the shift from your experience caring for your backyard to owning a mower and having seeds could be expressed more directly, and the final request for a decision feels abrupt. A clearer closing sentence and more precise links between your experience and the tasks you offer would make the organisation feel more polished.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes relevant terms such as “household chores,” “backyard,” “hands-on experience,” and “lawn care business.” These choices communicate your offer and motivation, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “the advertisement you made,” “daily usable things,” and “go on tour.” There are also spelling and capitalisation slips, such as “august” and “i.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Prefer conventional collocations and check spelling and capitalisation carefully before sending the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “seeds that can be grown only in summer” and a conditional structure in “if you like my work.” The main message remains understandable. However, some grammatical and punctuation errors recur: “for couple of hours” needs an article, “since I turned 18.will cut” has a sentence-boundary problem, and “Thanks for your understand” uses an incorrect noun form. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “i” and the missing full stops. Review articles, sentence boundaries, and clause structure; more consistently accurate sentences would strengthen the letter.
