Dear Mrs Barrett,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mrs Barrett,

I hope you are doing well. I saw your advertisement in the newspaper that you need a helper for your homework in upcoming summer.

I am writing to requesting you that I can help you in your house tasks such as cleaning floor and walls, cooking food and laundry.

I would like to do this work because I have two years of an experience regarding this job. In my own house I do this task by myself everyday. Currently, I am working at restaurant and most of the time my shift in the evening. There are also I am doing this task during the closing. Moreover, I am certified cleaner and food handler.

I hope you would be happy with service. My availability in summer will Monday to Friday from 9AM to 4PM and Saturday I will available 10 AM to 3:30 PM but unfortunately I will not available on Sunday. If you want, I am able to work flexible hours as you needed.

I am sending you my CV in this email and I hope would like my profile and give me a chance to help you. I really appreciate you and I am waiting for your response.

Thanking you,

Abhishek.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you offer help with cleaning, cooking and laundry, explain your experience and qualifications, and give specific weekday and Saturday hours while stating that Sundays are unavailable. The reasons for wanting the work are relevant, especially your two years of experience and food-handler certification. However, some details are not fully clear or developed: “There are also I am doing this task during the closing” does not explain how your restaurant work relates to the home-help role, and the reference to sending a CV by email is not clearly connected to a letter. To strengthen the response, explain more directly why this particular work appeals to you and present your availability in a clearer, more polished way.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from the advertisement and your offer to your experience, availability and closing. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and phrases such as “Moreover” and “If you want” attempt to connect ideas. Some links are awkward or unclear, however: “There are also I am doing this task during the closing” interrupts the explanation of your experience, while “I hope would like my profile” makes the closing difficult to follow. The sequence of availability details is understandable but could be presented more smoothly. Use clearer transitions and ensure each paragraph develops one main point; a concise final paragraph confirming your interest and inviting a reply would give the letter a more controlled progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough task-related vocabulary to communicate the main offer, including “cleaning,” “cooking,” “laundry,” “certified cleaner” and “food handler.” There is also some variety in how you describe your experience and schedule. However, several word choices and collocations sound unnatural or imprecise, such as “helper for your homework,” “house tasks,” “cleaning floor and walls,” and “I am waiting for your response.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less clear, even though the reader can generally understand it. Aim for natural phrases used in domestic-work contexts, and check collocations and word forms when describing duties, experience and availability. More precise, idiomatic wording would make the letter sound more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main message is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in verb patterns, articles and sentence construction. For example, “I am writing to requesting you” should use a correct infinitive pattern, and “I have two years of an experience” has an unnecessary article. In “I will available” and “I hope would like my profile,” required verb forms or subjects are missing. The sentence about your restaurant shift also has an incomplete construction. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they reduce accuracy. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, and review articles and verb forms in future and present-tense statements.
