Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying environmental damage and suggesting solutions for both individuals and governments. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of non-biodegradable waste and the need for legislation. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the link between plastic containers and cancer is stated as a fact without sufficient explanation or nuance. While the position is clear throughout, the response would benefit from more detailed examples or a more sophisticated exploration of the consequences of plastic use to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly repetitive. There are also instances where referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'That proved bad' in the introduction, which lacks a specific antecedent. While the overall progression of ideas is coherent, the use of cohesive devices is not always flexible or natural, which limits the score to a 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'non-biodegradable', 'legislation', and 'emissions'. However, there are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'componies', 'glabal', 'nacessory', 'echofreindly', 'ulternative') and some awkward collocations (e.g., 'ardent steps', 'do chemical reactions'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not prevent the message from being understood. A wider range of precise vocabulary would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'componies which manufacturing', 'government would play'), article usage, and pluralization (e.g., 'thousand of years', 'shop keepers'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and incorrect capitalization. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, although they rarely impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
