Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the environmental damage caused by plastic and potential solutions from governments and individuals. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of 'animals and species' suffering is a good starting point, but it lacks specific examples or depth. Similarly, the solutions provided, such as 'dustbins' and 'social media campaigns', are relevant but could be expanded with more detailed explanations or real-world examples to fully satisfy the requirements of a Band 7 or higher. The position is clear, but the overall argument lacks the depth and extension required for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, the transition between sentences often feels abrupt, and there is an over-reliance on simple conjunctions. While the logical flow is generally present, the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the text feel a bit disjointed. Paragraphing is present, but the concluding paragraph is very brief and does not effectively summarize the main points or provide a final thought, which limits the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher bands. The student relies on basic terms like 'bad', 'things', and 'make', which are repetitive. There are some attempts at more specific vocabulary, such as 'environmental problems' and 'alarming situation', but these are not consistently used. Additionally, there are minor errors in word choice, such as 'stray them into the sea' (should be 'throw' or 'discard') and 'whose make plastic' (should be 'that produce'). To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'it will be creats a difficult circumstances' (subject-verb agreement and article usage errors), 'neither for the human being but for animals' (incorrect correlative conjunction usage), and 'every drop make a ocean' (missing articles and subject-verb agreement). While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
