Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent times, all the packaging including bags and bottles are made from plastic which is harming the environment. I will discuss in this essay about the problems we are facing and the solutions that can be implemented to solve this problem.

Plastics contains various chemicals that damages an individual or animals when comes in contact. Moreover, it also destroys the plantation with hazardous smokes. When plastic is burnt, those chemicals comes in contact with air and that air is inhaled by many peoples and surrounding living beings. Nowadays, there are many foods which contains some parts of plastics which is very dangerous to living things. For example, when Kurkure is burnt, it resembles a form of plastic and many humans are unaware and consumes happily.

Some animals without any knowledge consume plastics which cannot be digest and can cause serious issues. Furthermore, there are some kind of plastics which do not recycle and damages our resources.

Therefore, some measures need to be taken to eradicate this problem. There is not one person to blame but all individuals including governments needs to step in to improve the world. One way to prevent this is to replace the plastic bags with paper bags as papers can be recycle. Government should put a strict ban on plastic bags. Additionally, plastic packaging can also be altered with paper packaging. In other way, plastic bottles should either be made with glass or make the bottles that can be recycled. This can be reached to public by big promotions, advertisements and awareness about the impacts of plastics on environment.

In conclusion, all the plastic products should be banned from the nation and various steps to be taken to improve the environment. As good world leads to good life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying environmental damage and suggesting solutions for both governments and individuals. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'Kurkure' is anecdotal and lacks the analytical depth expected for a formal essay. While the solutions are relevant, they are presented in a list-like fashion rather than being fully explored. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations of how specific government policies (e.g., taxation or legislation) would function in practice, rather than just stating they should be implemented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Therefore', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the internal structure of the second paragraph is slightly disjointed, jumping from chemical damage to food contamination and then to animal consumption. Improving the flow between these specific points would enhance the overall coherence. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problem from the proposed solutions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'eradicate' and 'hazardous', which is positive. However, there are instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'destroys the plantation' (likely meaning vegetation) and 'consumes happily'. The range is sufficient to communicate the main points, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on more accurate collocations and avoiding informal phrasing would improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Plastics contains', 'chemicals comes', 'peoples') and pluralization errors ('some kind of plastics'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and verb forms ('cannot be digest'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A more careful proofreading process to check for basic agreement and verb forms would be highly beneficial.
