Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the environmental damage caused by plastic and potential solutions. However, the development is inconsistent. The section on environmental damage is vague, relying on a personal anecdote about health rather than explaining broader ecological impacts like marine pollution or microplastics. The solutions are mentioned but lack depth; for example, the suggestion that governments should 'conduct a campaign' is underdeveloped. The conclusion is also somewhat disjointed and does not effectively summarize the main points. To improve, you should focus on providing more specific, well-supported arguments that directly answer the 'what damage' and 'what can be done' components of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is often unclear. Transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical or missing, making the flow feel disjointed. For instance, the jump from 'pollution' to a personal story about a father's health is abrupt and lacks a clear cohesive link. Additionally, the use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally inaccurate, such as the phrase 'Another contributing factor is by individuals spreading...' which does not logically follow the previous paragraph about government regulations. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'bad', 'problems', and 'rules'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'converse environment' (likely meant 'conserve') and 'effected his life' (should be 'affected'). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little attempt to use less common or more sophisticated lexical items. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental science and policy-making.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the essay that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('Authorities and people both are responsible', 'their is a rise'), incorrect preposition usage, and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. For example, 'In this essay will explore' is missing a subject. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors like article usage and verb tense consistency.
