Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying environmental damage and suggesting solutions. However, the development of ideas is limited and lacks depth. For instance, the claim that plastic releases 'poison gas' is scientifically vague and lacks supporting evidence or specific examples. Furthermore, the response is 13 words under the 250-word minimum, which negatively impacts the overall development of the argument. To improve, you should expand on your points with more specific examples, such as the impact of microplastics in oceans or specific government policies like plastic bag taxes, to ensure a more thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. While you use cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'Moreover', they are sometimes used in a repetitive or slightly unnatural way. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'when we misused it and throw it everywhere', where the pronoun 'it' does not clearly refer back to a specific noun. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear pronoun reference would enhance the flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'health deseass' (diseases) and 'healthy materials instade of plastic' (alternatives to plastic). The range is limited, relying on simple descriptors like 'bad' and 'dangerous'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to environmental science and ensure correct spelling and collocation. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic or topic-specific terms will significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The most dangerous thing in our environment we faces' (face) and 'There are many materials causes a damage' (that cause damage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of question marks in statements. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and sentence construction before attempting more complex grammatical forms. Proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency is essential.
