Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the environmental damage caused by plastic and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is limited. The explanation of environmental damage is brief and lacks depth, and the solutions provided are somewhat generic. Furthermore, the response is under the 250-word minimum requirement, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the arguments. The conclusion is also quite repetitive of the introduction. To improve, you should expand on your points with more specific examples and ensure you meet the word count to allow for a more comprehensive discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To explain it' and 'To elaborate it'. The transitions between sentences are sometimes abrupt, and the logical flow within paragraphs is hindered by grammatical errors. While there is a basic attempt at paragraphing, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the arguments make the progression feel somewhat disjointed. Improving the variety of linking phrases would help the ideas connect more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'dangers gases', 'nature creatures', and 'influence from the heros'. Some terms are used incorrectly, such as 'impending paragraph' (which is not the correct context for this phrase). To achieve a higher score, you should focus on using more precise vocabulary related to environmental issues and ensure that words are used in their correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('products has become', 'these has been thrown'), incorrect verb forms ('are occured', 'who makes these things'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. When complex structures are attempted, they often contain errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and sentence construction before attempting more complex grammatical structures. Proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency is essential.
