Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this face-paced life, use of the plastic bags, bottles and packaging have been increased. There are several compelling damages does plastic do to the environment which are inevitable and my forthcoming paragraphs will elaborate the same with the required solutions and examples.

To begin with, environment is the most extensive part of the human life and along with wildlife too, however increased use of the plastic have affected the life of animals, birds and sea creatures through consuming plastic as food. To continue, plastic does create several pollutions like water and air which are not negotiable and can have serious detrimental effects on human day to day life. In addition, plastic is non-recyclable, and destroying plastic supplies expense high which creates financial crisis for the government and country. Furthermore, the recent survey in UK elaborated that uses of more plastic in daily life can create 70% more chances of illness for the human being.

Besides the detrimental effects of plastics to environment, there are some important solutions that government or individuals can apply to decrease the production of plastic belongings. For example, instead of using plastic bags for day to day shopping, people can start using clothes bags to prevent from further disasters. Moreover, as government plays a significant role in the country, there should be rules and restrictions from the government to use of plastic supplies for the individuals which can helps to decrease the demand of the plastic.

To conclude, high demand of plastic can be dangerous and harmful for the environment and economy however, through the help of government rules and individuals the demand can be negotiable and the environment can be safe.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the environmental damage caused by plastic and potential solutions from governments and individuals. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of '70% more chances of illness' lacks context or credibility, and the explanation of financial crises for governments is vague. While the response covers all requirements, the ideas are not fully extended or supported with sufficient depth. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, logical explanations for your claims rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Moreover,' and 'To conclude' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To continue,' which does not effectively bridge the previous point. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; for example, the phrase 'the same' in the introduction is used incorrectly to refer to the forthcoming paragraphs. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'detrimental,' 'inevitable,' and 'significant role.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'supplies expense high' instead of 'disposal is expensive' and 'the demand can be negotiable' instead of 'the demand can be reduced.' These errors occasionally impede the precision of your argument. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that your word choices accurately reflect the intended meaning in a formal context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the plastic bags'), subject-verb agreement ('use of the plastic bags... have been increased'), and prepositional usage ('prevent from further disasters'). Some sentences are also structurally awkward, such as 'there should be rules and restrictions from the government to use of plastic supplies.' While these errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
