Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying environmental damage and suggesting solutions for both governments and individuals. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact on marine life and the role of single-use plastics. However, the development is somewhat limited; the explanation of the damage is brief, and the solutions, while clear, could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is clear throughout, and the structure follows the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin', 'Additionally', and 'However', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the connection between the personal anecdote in the second paragraph and the broader environmental argument could be smoother. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the information is presented in a coherent manner.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific language like 'recyclable', 'single-use', and 'drainage system'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'wiil' (will), 'unneccessary' (unnecessary), and 'in my daily' (in my daily life). To improve, the student should aim to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I has negative impact' (It has a negative impact) and 'Individuals may. take a step' (punctuation error). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring greater accuracy in basic grammar would be beneficial.
