Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, the use of plastic in everyday life has been increased. Plastic products such as bags, bottles and packages are a part of every single house and widespread of such products are harmful to the environment. This essay will discuss the damage cause by plastic and will include suggestions and actions that should be taken by government and individuals from the society.

One main cause of using plastic is that it causes pollution. Most of the plastic products takes years to decompose and some products are even not composable. This can affect the land as it consume space and spread t other place through air and can even pollute the ocean. These items can be consumed by animals as they can swallow these products and sometimes it gets trapped in their throat as well. Additionally, this type of waste can block the drainage system and burning is also not possible for such products as it can contribute to air pollution and climate change.

Government can play vital role in reducing this plastic pollution by taking some measures. There should be introduction of new law that has strict impact on society which should be ban on plastic bags and unnecessary packaging. There should be awareness camp to spread use of recyclable materials to make bags and other products. There should be awareness camp to spread knowledge about waste disposal among citizens. As an individual, citizens should think about helping their surroundings to look clean and waste free by following the rules to dispose waste and reduce purchase of products that has plastic used unnecessarily.

To conclude, the consumables and seller both should be aware about their awareness about the plastic usage and government should encourage use of recyclable products in every region to spread awareness.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying environmental damage and suggesting solutions for both governments and individuals. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, while you mention that plastic blocks drainage systems, this point is not fully extended or supported with a specific example. Similarly, the solutions provided, such as 'awareness camps,' are mentioned but lack detail on how they would be implemented or why they would be effective. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more depth, perhaps by explaining the mechanism of the damage or the specific impact of the proposed government policies.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the problem and solutions, and a conclusion. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the phrase 'There should be' is used three times in quick succession in the third paragraph, which disrupts the flow. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' 'in light of this') would improve the overall cohesion and make the arguments feel more interconnected.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'decompose,' 'recyclable,' and 'pollution.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'widespread of such products' (should be 'the widespread use') and 'consumables and seller' (should be 'consumers and sellers'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to environmental issues, such as 'non-biodegradable,' 'mitigate,' or 'sustainable alternatives.'

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Most of the plastic products takes' instead of 'take'), article misuse ('spread t other place' instead of 'spread to other places'), and awkward phrasing ('the use of plastic in everyday life has been increased' instead of 'has increased'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure could be more varied to demonstrate better control. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly enhance your accuracy.
