Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying environmental damage and suggesting solutions for both governments and individuals. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of how microplastics are consumed by animals is brief, and the suggestions for government action, while relevant, lack depth. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting arguments would benefit from more specific examples or detailed reasoning to reach a higher band. The ideas are relevant but remain at a general level, which limits the overall impact of the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the problem to the solutions. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the repetitive use of 'due to that' and 'because of that'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, for instance, in the phrase 'this issues' (which should be plural) and 'this problems'. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas clearly. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'pivotal' and 'contemporary era', but there are also frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'adeverse', 'aniamls', 'busniess', and 'easly sloved'. Some collocations are unnatural, such as 'hurtful for the nature' instead of 'harmful to the environment'. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, the persistent spelling and collocation errors prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('plastic waste are', 'this issues', 'Regime play') and article usage. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is occasionally repetitive. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and suggest a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms. Improving accuracy in basic agreement and pluralisation is essential.
