Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task, examining both the environmental damage caused by plastics and offering solutions from governments and individuals. The writer presents a clear position throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported, such as discussing the impact on animals and soil productivity. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise and some points, such as the specific example involving farm animals in Poland, lack precise contextual clarity and contain minor logical leaps. Overall, the task is addressed competently, satisfying the Band 6.5 to 7.0 profile well, earning a solid Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, body paragraphs on causes and solutions, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'To start with', but referencing and transitions are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like 'In other way authority can ban plastic' feel slightly awkward and repetitive. Additionally, pronoun referencing ('that plastic wrapers can be eaten by them') is occasionally unclear. Paragraph progression is visible, but the logical links between sentences can be smoother. This aligns closely with the Band 6 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'productivity', 'co-romising' (compromising), 'resilient' concepts, and 'eco-friendly'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'harmfullness', 'matter' spelled as 'metter', 'wrapers', 'beacause', and 'daamge'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score. While the writer attempts sophisticated terminology, frequent slips in collocation and spelling prevent the score from reaching Band 7.0, placing it firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors that persist, such as missing articles ('in this todays world', 'in poland study shown'), incorrect verb forms ('they can be die', 'that can not be to able to resist'), and run-on sentences ('Additionally, trees roots are not getting...'). While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to detract from grammatical control. The control of grammar aligns best with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors, warranting a Band 5.5.
