Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the environmental damage caused by plastic and suggesting solutions for both governments and individuals. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat superficial. For example, the student mentions that plastic creates land, water, and air pollution, but fails to elaborate on the specific mechanisms of this damage. Similarly, the solutions provided, such as developing strict rules or using paper bags, are briefly stated without deep exploration or comprehensive examples. The position is clear throughout, but the overall elaboration aligns closely with the Band 5 descriptor where ideas are limited and under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into four paragraphs, showing a clear attempt at a standard essay structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, progression is frequently hindered by repetitive phrasing and awkward cohesive devices. For instance, transitional phrases like 'To commence with' and 'However' are used, but sentences within paragraphs often run together without adequate linking or punctuation, as seen in 'plastic products has no expiry, its long lasting , because of that its creating land pollution'. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical, making the overall flow disjointed, which is characteristic of a Band 5 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate to convey the basic message, featuring common environmental terms like 'pollution', 'environment', 'alternative', and 'reusable'. However, there are numerous spelling errors and incorrect word forms throughout the text, such as 'govermnet', 'manufacured', 'hazardious', 'harmenous', 'campeing', and 'bodt'. While the student attempts less common vocabulary, the persistent inaccuracies in spelling and word choice cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the lexical score to a Band 5 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences or poorly constructed compound-complex sentences linked by commas. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb patterns and modal structures, such as 'govermnet should to develop', 'should to create', 'should to accept', and 'individuals should to avoid'. Punctuation is also weak, with missing spaces after commas and periods. These frequent errors cause considerable distraction, though the general meaning remains discernible, placing the performance securely at Band 5.
