Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt regarding the environmental damage caused by plastic and the solutions involving governments and individuals. However, the development of ideas is extremely weak and limited. While the student identifies plastic bags and bottles as problematic and mentions issues like pollution and harm to animals, the points are repetitive and lacking in clear structure or detailed support. The second part of the prompt concerning solutions is almost entirely neglected, with only a very vague concluding remark to "avoid plastic." Consequently, the response only partially addresses the prompt, fitting the criteria for Band 4.0, where the task is responded to minimally and ideas are insufficiently developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The organisation of the text is severely hindered by a lack of proper paragraphing and extremely poor structural flow. The essay consists of just three very long and dense blocks of text, and the final conclusion is inadequate. There is a near-total absence of appropriate cohesive devices, with sentences clumsily linked together using repetitive conjunctions like "and this is" or "also". Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical progression of thoughts. Paragraphing is not used effectively to separate distinct ideas such as the problems versus solutions, placing the response firmly at Band 4.0 for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used throughout the essay is basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted. The student frequently misuses words or uses non-standard terms, such as "wather impact" for weather impact, "bottlels", and "helth". There are numerous spelling mistakes and awkward collocations, such as "bad idea all type of plastic throw any placesis". While the student attempts to use topical vocabulary like "environment", "pollution", and "global warming", the limited range and frequent errors severely strain the reader and obscure meaning, aligning with the Band 4.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is extremely weak throughout the text. The response is dominated by run-on sentences, massive comma splices, and a complete lack of accurate punctuation. Complex sentence structures are either absent or entirely faulty, as seen in strings of clauses joined incorrectly by coordinating conjunctions, for instance: "plastic burn and spoil the environment because too much polution in environment and weather is change and this is very danger for human..." Basic grammatical rules, including subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and article usage, are consistently violated. These frequent errors frequently distort meaning and place the grammar at a Band 4.0 level.
