Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing the environmental damage caused by plastic and offering solutions for both governments and individuals. The position is clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which places the response at this level. For instance, the discussion on individual actions in the third paragraph is extended with various practical examples such as carrying reusable cups and using glass utensils. Conversely, the initial points on soil quality and wildlife impact lack deeper elaboration, remaining somewhat general. Ten words copied directly from the prompt were not counted toward the minimum length. Overall, the content is relevant and covers all task requirements adequately, showing elements of better task fulfillment through its clear structure and relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introducing the topic, to discussing environmental damage, to outlining solutions, and finally concluding. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each main idea, showing a clear layout. Cohesive devices are employed to connect sentences and paragraphs, such as 'Moreover', 'To resolve this obstacle', and 'To conclude'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty, such as 'Because due to this fishes' or 'To add on individulas should use glass utenstils', which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Additionally, some transitional phrases feel repetitive or overused, and pronoun referencing is occasionally unclear. Despite these minor cohesive flaws, the logical flow is maintained throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range of everyday and semi-formal terms to discuss environmental issues. The writer attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'ecosystem', 'compost', and 'reusable', showing an ambition to expand lexical choices. However, there are noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'enlight' instead of 'enlighten', 'damange', 'Plastuc', 'casue', 'becasue', 'indirecty', 'goverment', 'invidulas', 'rergulations', 'insted', 'utenstils', 'sealife', 'stict', and 'environmet'. There are also minor word choice inaccuracies, such as 'plenty for problems' instead of 'plenty of problems'. These errors reflect a limited range and occasional slips, but communication remains clear and the reader is not heavily impeded by the vocabulary limitations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied grammatical structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns. Examples of grammatical errors include 'All the creature on earth is affected', 'plastic do not get recycled easily', 'fishes, octopus , whales', 'both goverment and invidulas should actions', and 'avoid to use plastic bags'. Punctuation errors, such as missing commas after introductory phrases and irregular spacing around punctuation marks, are also present. These errors represent a limited range of reliable structures where attempts at complex sentences often contain faults, fitting the description of frequent errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader while still allowing the main message to be understood.
