Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both questions: it identifies harm to the environment and proposes actions by individuals and government. The explanation that discarded bags enter rivers and affect marine life is relevant, and the suggestions to use paper bags and run public-awareness campaigns are appropriate. However, the damage is explained narrowly, mainly through one example, while other effects of bottles and packaging are not discussed. The solutions are also asserted rather than developed: for example, the essay does not explain how campaigns would change behaviour or what practical measures governments could introduce. The position is understandable, but the conclusion is unclear and overstates that awareness alone will solve the problem. Develop each main point with a clear explanation and a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable overall structure, with an introduction, a paragraph about environmental damage, a solutions paragraph and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “On the one hand,” “Turning towards the solutions,” and “In conclusion” help signal these stages. However, some linking is mechanical, and the opening promises “some reason” without clearly previewing the response. Within paragraphs, ideas sometimes run together, as in the sentence about bags being thrown into rivers and then releasing gases. References such as “this problem” and “these problem” are not always clear, and the conclusion repeats earlier points rather than bringing them together. Use clearer links between cause and effect, and organise each paragraph around one developed central idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “marine life,” “hazardous effect,” “environment,” and “public,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are inaccurate or repeatedly misspelled, which sometimes makes the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Examples include “non recyleable,” “rel erse harmfull gases,” “plants and species,” and “bag impact.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “organised a camps” and “abundant of information.” Aim to use a smaller set of accurate, natural expressions rather than attempting uncertain wording. Proofread spelling carefully and learn common collocations related to pollution, waste and public policy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There are attempts to use complex sentences, including clauses beginning “which” and “after,” and the response is usually understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, articles and punctuation occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “growing demand … has been increaseing” has an incorrect verb form, while “people throw this bags” has a demonstrative and plural-agreement problem. “The government should organised a camps” also combines an incorrect verb form with a singular/plural mismatch. Several sentences lack spaces after full stops or commas, and the final sentence is difficult to follow because its clauses are not controlled. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check each sentence’s subject and verb.
