Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this message finds you well,
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction on article I read in the Times of India newspaper in which you have mentioned that town centres across India appear similar to each other.
While I agree with some aspects of the article particularly about the services it offers to the public. The community centre has gone a major refurnishment in the past 2 months and it has added several new services like new meeting rooms, gym facility, a cafeteria and counselling services for students and professionals. Also, we have increased the timings for the vistors who wants to that visit after the office hours can still visit. Furthermore, We have newly opened an visitor information centre on the main floor of the building incase if anyone has any questions.
Moreover, our town centre is very different than others in other city, both in terms of infrastructure as well as the services offered. We make sure that all the visitors and the nearby residents can access the services without much hazzle to them. Also, for the people's convinience we have wheelchair facilites for baby boomers.
In fact, I would like to invite you to our community centre in Don Mills Community Centre, Toronto so that we can give you a guided tour of it and show you around the different services we offer to serve the community.
Yours faithfully,
Sankalp Diwate.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly state your disagreement with the article, provide specific examples of how your town centre differs, and extend an invitation for a tour. However, the development of your ideas is slightly uneven. While you provide details about the community centre, you do not fully address the prompt's premise regarding 'town centres' in general, focusing almost exclusively on a single building. To improve, ensure your arguments are more balanced and directly address the broader scope of the prompt. Your tone is appropriate for a letter to an editor, and your position is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'In fact' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by grammatical errors, such as the sentence fragment 'While I agree with some aspects of the article particularly about the services it offers to the public.' Improving the connection between your sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence will help you achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'infrastructure', 'counselling services', and 'refurbishment'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'gone a major refurnishment' (should be 'undergone a major refurbishment') and 'hazzle' (should be 'hassle'). Additionally, the phrase 'baby boomers' is used incorrectly in the context of wheelchair accessibility, as it refers to a generation rather than a specific physical condition. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations and focusing on accurate spelling will enhance your lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Examples include 'dissatisfaction on article' (missing article 'an'), 'vistors who wants to that visit' (redundant and incorrect verb agreement), and 'in case if anyone' (redundant). There are also issues with sentence fragments and incorrect preposition usage. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for basic grammatical slips. While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score.
