Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to express my disagreement regarding the article you published in the national newspaper ,as the town centres in my country look alike mostly.

I agree with some points in articles you have published such as most of town made wth the same material and the architecture of centre town appeared similar but the facilities and the way its design are totally distinctive as compared to other parts of nation.Even every centre town represents its own identity and culture that belongs to that particular town.

My town is different in terms structure and facilities such as there is two tempels, one museum and numerous shopping centre .Which provide it unique identity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you addressed the three bullet points—agreeing with the article, explaining your town's uniqueness, and offering a tour—the explanation for the final point is entirely missing. The ideas provided are quite brief and lack the necessary depth to fully satisfy the task requirements. To improve, you must expand on your points with specific examples and ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed with sufficient detail to meet the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into short paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is somewhat disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas smoothly. For example, the transition between agreeing with the article and describing your town is abrupt. The use of paragraphing is present but could be more effective in separating the distinct parts of the letter. To improve, use linking words such as 'furthermore', 'however', or 'consequently' to create a more logical progression of thought.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You use phrases like 'town centres' and 'different' multiple times. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'centre town' instead of 'town centre' and 'part of nation' instead of 'part of the country'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to urban planning or architecture, and ensure you use articles (a/the) correctly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'there is two tempels', and missing articles throughout the text. Sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement and ensure you proofread for missing articles and pluralization errors.
