Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or madam,
I am writing this to express my view I read an article that you published in a national newspaper which claims that town centers in your country all look similar to each other.
In this situation I don't agree with this statement, because every country has design their centre. Just like in our country centre has a big meuseum while other have not in the centre. our country has a worlds big shopping mall named Dolmen mall in the centre but other country has a living area for their public. Every countrys structure is different. Because every artitecher has their own design
In addition I wany to elaborate that there is a sea besides
with centre, while on other sides they didn't have it.
Every country's culture, design infrastructure
can not be same.
I suggest to you please check
the detailed first then published in
your articles. Because it can
effect our tourist who only rely
on online reading. because they
can be feeled that if the
things are same then why they
spend cost on them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points, but the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. You mention that you disagree with the article, but you fail to mention which points in the article you actually agree with, as requested by the prompt. Your explanation of why your town is different is clear, but the argument relies on generalizations about 'every country' rather than focusing on your specific town. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an editor, but the lack of specific agreement with the article's premise weakens the overall task fulfillment.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic and sometimes mechanical. Phrases like 'In addition' and 'Because' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is often disjointed. For example, the transition between the mention of the museum and the shopping mall is abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when you switch between 'our country' and 'your town', which makes the argument difficult to follow at times. More varied linking words would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic message, but it is repetitive and lacks precision. You use words like 'centre', 'country', and 'design' multiple times, which limits the range. There are also several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'meuseum' (museum), 'artitecher' (architect), and 'feeled' (felt). These errors do not completely impede communication, but they do indicate a limited range of vocabulary for a formal letter. To improve, try to use more specific descriptive language related to urban planning and architecture.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every country has design their centre') and article usage. Punctuation is also problematic, with several run-on sentences and missing commas that make the text harder to read. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of grammatical errors throughout the letter prevents it from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be very beneficial.
