Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state your disagreement with the article, provide specific examples of how your town differs (sewage, parks, waste management, and gym facilities), and extend an invitation for a tour. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of the sewage system and waste management is quite brief. To improve, you should expand on these points to provide a more detailed and persuasive argument. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an editor, though it could be more formal in places.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'On the other hand' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is occasionally mechanical. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, there are some issues with punctuation and sentence structure that occasionally disrupt the flow of information. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear transitions between paragraphs would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'municipal co-operation' and 'local community'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and spelling errors, such as 'resemblence', 'equvilant', 'dumpage', and 'embaressed'. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more accurate collocations and ensuring correct spelling of common words. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated synonyms for everyday terms would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with articles ('the city Rajpura'), subject-verb agreement ('other don't have'), and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. For example, 'I am resident of thirty Redfinchway there one day i read a newspaper'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement and capitalization. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity and professionalism of the letter. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips will help improve your score.
