Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to represent my disagreement towards the article you wrote regarding the claim of similarity in between the all town center in our country.

I am from Jaipur, Rajasthan and I am impressed with your research on the data related to the town's history and development over the decades. Since you compared towns on the basis of population, growth and wealth with relevant information, the article is precise and simple to understand.

Despite the great presentation of records, I have different view point about the layout and building engineering feat of my town is exceptional than other town centers. Owing to various heritage sites and palaces, this city has still traditional vibes as compared to metropolitan town centers.

I would like to attach some official online guide tour to explore Jaipur and it's structural outlet of center. It provides not only directions but also provide details about different attractions nearby.

Thank you. i look forward towards your prompt response.

Yours faithfully,

Manju Poonia

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly stated your disagreement with the article, explained how Jaipur is unique due to its heritage sites, and offered a tour. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an editor. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why your town is different could be more detailed to fully convince the reader. Additionally, the offer of a guided tour is slightly confusingly phrased as an 'online guide tour' rather than a personal invitation as implied by the prompt. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of argument could be improved to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Despite', 'Owing to', and 'Since' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs feels a bit abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some phrasing, such as 'structural outlet of center', is slightly awkward and hinders the smooth progression of your argument. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between your points would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'metropolitan', 'heritage sites', and 'engineering feat'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly affect the precision of your message. For example, 'structural outlet of center' is not a standard collocation, and 'represent my disagreement towards' is slightly unnatural; 'express my disagreement with' would be more accurate. You also have some minor errors in word formation, such as 'guide tour' instead of 'guided tour'. While these do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from being considered sophisticated or consistently precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'similarity in between the all town center' (should be 'similarity between all town centers') and 'it's structural outlet' (incorrect use of the possessive 'its'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and capitalization issues, such as the lowercase 'i' in the final paragraph. While you attempt complex structures, the frequency of these errors is noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and possessive pronouns. The errors rarely cause confusion, but they are frequent enough to limit the score.
