Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to express my disagreement with recent article you published in newspaper say how all the city centres look similar to each other.
I am agree that all towns have some structure like hospital, watersupply system and roads structure which matches with other cities. But I am resident of Model town, Ludhiana and our city is totally diffrent from the other. It contains well developed road system with the flyovers pass from the center of city to connect people with the highways. It reduces the congestion on the roads. There is a historical museum of social hisotry. It helps to preserve the culture of Punjab so that youger generations can know about their culture which is disapearing nowadays. Other then this, all the shops are well developed and equiped it glass doors which provides diffrent look to market.
I would like to invite you to our city so that you can write more about it in seprate article. I would like to provide you a guided tour of our town, visiting major attractio like museum, rock garden and city mall. I hope this help you to write precisely about our town so that more people will become aware about our city and its development. I want you to correct the previous article so that it will not creat wrong picture in readers mind.
Looking forward for your prompt action
Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state your disagreement with the article, provide specific examples of how your town differs (flyovers, historical museum, and modern shop fronts), and extend a polite invitation for a guided tour. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an editor. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the description of the museum and the shops could be more detailed to fully support your argument against the 'sameness' of town centres. Overall, the task is fulfilled effectively, and your position remains clear throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Other than this' and 'I would like to', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and there are instances where referencing could be smoother. For example, the connection between the museum and the preservation of culture is clear, but the link between the shops and the 'different look' could be more explicitly stated. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'congestion', 'precisely', and 'attractions'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'hisotry', 'disapearing', 'equiped', 'seprate', and 'creat'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not impede the overall understanding of your message. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt to use more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions relevant to the context of urban development and civic pride.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use some complex sentences, there are persistent errors in articles ('the recent article', 'the city centres') and subject-verb agreement ('I am agree', 'all the shops are... equiped it glass doors'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are missing articles and minor errors in preposition usage. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences and refining your control over articles and prepositions will help improve your score in this criterion.
