You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to bring your attention on an article that was published by you regarding my town centre.

The newspaper was published related to Toronto town, and it mentioned that Toronto has the largest tower in the world, which is an attractive place for tourism. I agree with your study because this was the correct headline for an article.

Unfortunately, I do not agree that all towns of my country are similar because each city has a separate town in Canada, which is based on the beauty of the city. Brampton City describes the different backgrounds of people, and Kitchener Town is famous for islands. It means each town center has unique feature to explain the city.

I can organize a tour for my town to know the popularity of each town and it may help to enhance your interest related to the history of my town.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Faithfully,

Manpreet kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points, though the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. You successfully state your position regarding the article, provide examples of how your town differs from others, and offer a tour. However, the explanation of why your town is unique is slightly confusing; for instance, mentioning that Kitchener is 'famous for islands' is unclear and lacks sufficient detail to be persuasive. To improve, ensure your arguments are more logically connected to the prompt's theme of town centre architecture and atmosphere rather than just listing city names. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an editor, though it could be more formal.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Unfortunately' and 'It means' to link ideas. However, the progression between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the discussion of Toronto and your own town is abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', 'Consequently') to create a smoother flow between your points. Additionally, ensure that referencing is clear so the reader understands exactly which town you are referring to at all times.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'attractive', 'popularity', and 'enhance'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'bring your attention on an article' (should be 'to') and 'The newspaper was published related to Toronto town' (which is awkward phrasing). Some vocabulary is repetitive, and you rely on fairly simple descriptors. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning or architecture to better express your opinions on the appearance of town centres.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. For example, 'each city has a separate town in Canada' is logically confusing, and 'I can organize a tour for my town to know the popularity' is grammatically awkward. There are also minor issues with prepositions and article usage (e.g., 'the largest tower in the world' is fine, but 'each town center has unique feature' is missing an article). To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to vary your sentence structures with more complex clauses.
