Student answer (Band 6.0)

Task 1

Dear Sir,

My name is Anuj Patel. I am not completely satisfied as you stated that the town centres located in my country are looking same as each other states.

Firstly, i am not completely disagree with your statement as you have visited the city in my country before writing an article. There are too many large complex buildings, famous coffee chains and international brand dominate city centres. So, I agree that many town centres have become increasingly similar because they contain high rise buildings, same chain stores, shopping malls and restaurants.

Secondly, in my town centre there are many historic buildings, local markets, river, temple, parks, street art that is widely considered as international skill which is not be seen in other cities. Here their are historic building that was constructed during before independence and still intact plays a vital history role. However, my town still has a traditional market that has existed for more than a hundred years. In addition, our historic temples and riverside parks attract many visitors every weekend.

Yours sincerely

Anuj Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly stated your partial agreement with the article, provided specific examples of how your town differs from others, and attempted to address the final prompt. However, you missed the instruction to offer a guided tour to the writer, which is a key requirement. While you mentioned the town's features, you did not explicitly invite the author to visit. To improve, ensure you check off every instruction in the prompt before finishing. Your position is clear, but the development of ideas could be more focused on the specific requirements of the letter format.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic transition words like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' to signal your points. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are issues with referencing. For example, 'that is widely considered as international skill' is vague and lacks a clear antecedent. Additionally, the final paragraph ends abruptly without a proper closing statement or the required invitation. Improving the use of cohesive devices to link ideas more fluidly would help move your score higher.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'historic buildings', 'international brand', and 'traditional market'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'looking same as each other states' and 'plays a vital history role' (should be 'historical role'). Some phrasing is repetitive, and you rely on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and nouns, and ensure that your word choices are natural and grammatically appropriate for the context of a formal letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

Your writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'i am not completely disagree' (should be 'I do not completely disagree'), 'Here their are' (should be 'Here there are'), and 'constructed during before independence'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. While these errors do not prevent communication, they are frequent enough to limit your score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and tense consistency will significantly improve your accuracy.
