- say which points in the article you agree with
- explain ways in which your town centre is different from most other town centres
- offer to give a guided tour of your town to the writer of the article
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to express my understanding on the recent article published a few days ago based on the similar town centres found in my country.
First of all, I would definitely support your view points regarding the similar materials used building the recent architectures in the Bangalore city to match the other historical buildings in the cities. For example, the recent Parliament building constructed two years back was copy of the old Parliament structure using the modern equipment’s.
However, the old buildings which are located in the center are well know monuments and large number of visitors approach these architecture designs and unique material used in the past centuries. Therefore, I would certainly request you to correct these changes in your newspaper before it reaches to mass public.
Finally, we are celebrating 150th anniversary of the Lal Bagh building which is another monument in the city and your most welcome. I will be glad to explain you deeply about the city further developments.
Hoping to hear from you.
Yours faithfully,
Anjali

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You identified points of agreement regarding architectural styles, explained the uniqueness of your town through the mention of historical monuments, and extended an invitation for a tour. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why your town is different is slightly vague, focusing more on the existence of monuments rather than a detailed contrast with other towns. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully extended and that the tone remains consistently appropriate for a letter to an editor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the acknowledgement of the article to your personal perspective and finally to the invitation. Paragraphing is used to separate these distinct ideas, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'Therefore, I would certainly request you to correct these changes'. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the connection between the anniversary and the invitation could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'monuments', 'architectural designs', and 'anniversary'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder precision. For example, 'understanding on the recent article' should be 'understanding of', and 'approach these architecture designs' is not a natural collocation. Furthermore, 'your most welcome' contains a grammatical error (should be 'you are most welcome'). While these errors do not prevent communication, they indicate a need for more careful attention to word choice and standard idiomatic expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally draw attention. Examples include 'based on the similar town centres' (should be 'regarding the similarity of town centres'), 'building the recent architectures' (should be 'in the construction of recent architecture'), and the misuse of the apostrophe in 'equipment’s'. While these errors rarely impede the overall meaning, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
