Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: acknowledging the article, explaining how your town is unique, and offering a tour. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For example, your explanation of how your town differs relies on simplistic descriptions of wall colors and statues, which does not fully convince the reader of the town's unique character. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed, specific examples of local culture, architecture, or community features that distinguish your town from others. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an editor, but the content lacks depth.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For instance, you use 'As you mentioned' twice in quick succession. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, such as the jump from discussing statues to wall colors. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore,' 'In contrast,' 'Consequently') to create a smoother flow between your ideas and ensure that your referencing is clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite basic and repetitive. You use the phrase 'town center' multiple times, which limits the sophistication of your writing. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'done' instead of 'painted' or 'finished,' and 'in the country' used redundantly. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a more varied range of vocabulary, including less common synonyms and more precise descriptive language to convey your points effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'Ever town center' (Every), 'there own history' (their), and 'each statue represent' (represents). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as the unnecessary comma after 'As' in the second paragraph. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and basic spelling will significantly improve the clarity and professionalism of your writing.
