Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir,
I hope you find this mail well. I am writing to you to express my opinion in regard to the article you have published in National Newspaper, saying all the town centers in our city are broadly uniform.
First of all, I would appreciate some of your ideas explained in the article that how the food courts and sitting areas follows the same building structure. The furniture and disposable infrastructure are all well designed in almost every shopping center in our city. Besides, I am really impressed by the cleanliness of dining area and cafeteria, where public would have an ideal place to sit and enjoy their meal. These two features are available in all town centers in the city.
However, I found some of the town centers that lacks some basic structural features such as proximity of security room and surveillance cameras. To explain, I have visited couple of town centers in the south of the city this year. in one center, I found the place insecure in because security room was built at the back of the mall which would result in any mishappening because of high distance from the center of the mall where majority of public presents. Whereas security rooms are available in the center of the mall close to the food court.
Apart from that, the town center in the east of the city has very poor ventilation. I had experienced suffocation that hardly seen in any other town centers.
Lastley, I would suggest you visit our city south and north of the city. You will most likely find those town centers different from others.
I would eagerly be waiting for your next article.
Your faithfully,
Aman.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task. You clearly state your partial agreement with the article, provide specific examples of how your town differs from others (security and ventilation), and extend an invitation for a guided tour. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an editor. However, the development of ideas is slightly uneven; while the security example is detailed, the initial agreement regarding food courts is somewhat repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are balanced and that the transition between agreeing and disagreeing is more fluid.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'However', and 'Apart from that' to guide the reader. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some referencing is unclear, such as 'those town centers' in the final paragraph, which lacks a direct antecedent. Additionally, the punctuation in the final paragraph and the closing salutation ('Your faithfully') contains minor errors that slightly disrupt the overall flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'broadly uniform', 'disposable infrastructure', and 'surveillance cameras'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'mishappening' (which is not standard English) and 'hardly seen' (which should be 'hardly ever seen'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding your use of collocations and avoiding non-standard word formations would improve your score significantly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'I hope you find this mail well' (should be 'hope you are well'), 'how the food courts... follows' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'insecure in because' (preposition error). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and sentence fragments, such as 'in one center, I found...'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent article usage will help.
