Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: acknowledging the article's claims, explaining the uniqueness of your town, and offering a guided tour. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why your town is different relies on vague descriptions like 'unique structure' and 'story behind it' without providing concrete, vivid details that would truly convince the reader. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully extended with specific examples. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an editor, though the opening could be more formal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However,' 'Moreover,' and 'Nevertheless' to link your ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as using 'Nevertheless' where a simple addition or contrast would be more natural. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the buildings and the 'story of Jesus' feels abrupt. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your main points clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'picturesque,' 'creativity,' and 'guided tour.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'these are energy saver also' instead of 'energy-efficient' and 'different of most other' instead of 'different from most other.' To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise adjectives to describe your town's features rather than relying on general terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'some buildings are same in height and style same,' 'it is look similar,' and 'all town houses are operate.' These errors, along with issues regarding articles (e.g., 'on story of Jesus') and prepositions, occasionally impede the flow of your writing. While the meaning remains understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of basic sentence construction and verb forms.
