Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am Amrit resident of city Surrey which is very closer to Vancouver. I hope this letter finds you well. Today, I am writing this letter regarding the article that posted in National newspaper which demonstrated that town and cities are looks very similar of my nation with other countries. I agree with your article. However, I do not believe it fully look similar with other towns.
I agree the appearance of the housing and street are the same but there are some of the place which looks completely different from other nations. For example, in all over the world most of the commercials building are painted with white colour in comparison to that Surrey commercial building painted with blue and green colour which relates with province flag.
Moreover, in this modern era city centre are renovated whereas our city mall is still in good appearance even though it has historical look which directly connected with our traditional style.
I would be grateful if you have a city tour and I will done some of the arrangements for you of will step in our city such as arrangement the room and book a car for city trip. There are many of the amazing places that you will find best and different from others.
Please feel free if require any further information and [redacted phone] is my contact number.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: you acknowledged the article, explained how your town is unique, and offered a guided tour. Your position is clear throughout the letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding the commercial buildings is a bit repetitive and could be more precisely articulated. To improve, ensure that your arguments are fully expanded with more specific details rather than general statements. Despite these minor limitations, you have successfully fulfilled the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'However' to link your ideas. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the phrasing 'if you have a city tour' is awkward. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'renovated', 'commercial', and 'traditional'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'article that posted' (should be 'was posted') and 'looks very similar of my nation' (should be 'to those in my nation'). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'I will done some of the arrangements'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations and focusing on accurate word forms will significantly improve your lexical range and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, such as 'cities are looks' and 'I will done'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing articles and prepositional errors that occasionally hinder the flow. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and article usage. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you reach a higher band.
