Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter regarding an article on town centres of my nation which was published yesterday.
While I enjoyed reading as it provides many legit and helpful insights on city centres of my country. Firstly, I like how it discribes the purpose of free food outlets present in each centres as well as how it is kept open all days for wellbeing of public. Secondly, I like the way narrative of an article is written. Despite of this things I did not like how it describes the external as well as internal architecture as it was mentioned that all town centres look similar which I believe is a little misleading. Although motive behind running it is same, but every centres has their own style of construction, theme and especially food because of cultural differences varies across states.
I can understand that it was written by a traveller and they might me be unaware of minute details which make all of the centres unique so I would like to offer guided tour of the centre for better understanding. Lastly, I would appreciate it if corrective actions are made and

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly state which parts of the article you agree with, provide a counter-argument regarding architectural and cultural uniqueness, and offer a guided tour. However, the letter is incomplete, as it ends abruptly mid-sentence without a proper closing. This omission prevents the task from being fully developed and impacts the overall tone of the letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that you include a formal sign-off and complete your final thoughts. The position is clear, but the development of the argument regarding the 'uniqueness' of your town could be more specific to better support your disagreement with the article.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent, and the use of paragraphing helps to separate the different points required by the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Although' to guide the reader. However, the flow is interrupted by the abrupt ending, which leaves the final paragraph unfinished. Additionally, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Despite of this things'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, completed conclusion would enhance the logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'insights', 'architecture', and 'misleading'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'legit' (which is too informal for a letter to an editor), 'discribes' (spelling error), and 'Despite of this things' (incorrect collocation). To improve, focus on using more formal, academic vocabulary suitable for a newspaper editor and ensure that your word forms are accurate. Expanding your range of collocations will help you express your ideas with greater precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'every centres has' (subject-verb agreement), 'varied across states' (missing auxiliary verb), and 'might me be' (word order). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the incomplete final sentence. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Proofreading for minor slips in tense and word order will help you achieve a higher level of accuracy and allow your complex sentences to be more effective.
