You have just read an article in a national newspaper which claims that town centres in your country all look very similar to each other. You don't fully agree with this opinion.

Write a letter to the editor of the newspaper. In your letter

• say which points in the article you agree with
• explain ways in which your town centre is different from most other town centres
• offer to give a guided tour of your town to the writer of the article

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to respond to the recent article in your newspaper claiming that all town centres in our country look identical. While I understand why the author holds this view, I do not entirely agree with it.

I certainly accept the writer’s point about modern high streets losing their individuality. In recent years, giant retail chains, fast-food franchises, and uniform glass buildings have taken over many town centres. This commercial expansion has undoubtedly made many shopping districts feel repetitive and bland.

However, our town centre is a noticeable exception to this trend. Local regulations here strictly prevent large corporate chains from replacing our historical buildings. Instead, our town centre is defined by independent, family-owned shops, cobblestone streets, and a beautifully preserved 16th-century market hall. These unique features preserve our strong local heritage and give the area a distinct charm that sets it apart from typical high streets.

To demonstrate this contrast firsthand, I would like to offer the writer of the article a guided tour of our town. I would be delighted to show them around, highlight our unique architecture, and introduce them to the vibrant local businesses that keep our community distinct.
