Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Hello Sir,
I am writing this letter to demonstrate my opinion regarding an article. Last week, I read an article which was describing that in my country, all town centres are looking simultaneously which is not quite truth.
Moreover, there are several things mentioned by the article such as facilities and amenities provided by town centre, employment opportunities, leisure and educational activities. Among them, I agree with the headlines showing facilities and amenities since every town centers are supporting their customer in a same way even though having difference in locations.
However, in my opinion, city centre in my area is differ due to its job openings. Nowadays, local councils are emphasize on making place bigger than the past to fulfill their potential about developing city. Eventually, owing to this growth, new business are taking place in the market ,and as a result my town centre is able to provide wider options for working in various shops.
I would really appreciate, if you could take a tour of my city so that you will able to see the development and can launch some new articles for my town. I look forward to hear you response.
Kind regards,
Krisha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly stated your position regarding the article, explained how your town differs, and extended an invitation for a tour. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when explaining how your town differs, you mention 'job openings' and 'local councils,' but the connection to the physical appearance of the town centre—which is the core topic of the article—is not fully explored. To reach a higher band, ensure your supporting details are more directly relevant to the prompt's focus on the visual similarity of town centres.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'However,' and 'Eventually' to link your ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or are used in contexts where they do not fit perfectly, such as 'Eventually' to introduce a point about business growth. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the reference to 'headlines' is vague. Improving the variety and natural flow of your linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, but there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors. For example, you use 'simultaneously' when you likely meant 'similar' or 'identical,' and 'truth' instead of 'true.' Phrases like 'every town centers are supporting their customer' are also unnatural. While your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your message, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on learning common collocations and ensuring you use words in their correct grammatical form will help you improve.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'all town centres are looking simultaneously,' 'city centre in my area is differ,' and 'new business are taking place.' There are also issues with article usage and verb tense consistency, such as 'I look forward to hear you response' instead of 'hearing your response.' While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a need for more careful proofreading of basic sentence construction.
