You have just read an article in a national newspaper which claims that town centres in your country all look very similar to each other. You don't fully agree with this opinion.

Write a letter to the editor of the newspaper. In your letter

• say which points in the article you agree with
• explain ways in which your town centre is different from most other town centres
• offer to give a guided tour of your town to the writer of the article

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in response to the article recently published in your newspaper regarding the similarity of town centres across the country. While I agree with some of the points mentioned, I do not entirely share the view that all town centres look alike.

I agree that many town centres have become increasingly similar in recent years. Large retail chains, supermarkets and fast-food restaurants can now be found almost everywhere. Furthermore, modern shopping complexes are often built in a similar style, which has caused some towns to lose part of their traditional character.

However, the town centre where I live is quite distinctive. It has managed to preserve several historic buildings and traditional shops that reflect the area's local culture. In addition, there is a popular outdoor market where local vendors sell handmade products, fresh produce and regional food. The central area also contains attractive green spaces and regularly hosts cultural festivals and community events. These features give my town a unique identity and distinguish it from many other commercial town centres.

I would be delighted to offer the writer of the article a guided tour of my town. I could show them the historic landmarks, local market and independent businesses that make the area unique. I believe that seeing these places firsthand might provide a different perspective on the issue.
