Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir/madam
I am writing in response to a recent article about a town centres in my country. I personally do not fully agree with this opinion.
However there are some points I agree with some points you mentioned about the cafe and restraunts, which look almost similar with each other. Some largers areas now expanded with some stores which also shows the same look.
On the other hand, my town is quite different from most other town centres as it holds the history of the nation. It has historical and traditional infrastructure made in the past but the inside of the buildings is maintained promptly. It has a museum and some parks, which enhances the beauty of my town.
I would like to request you to if you can make some arrangements from your busy schedule, I would love to give you a guided tour.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely.
Lovepreet kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state your partial disagreement with the article, provide specific examples of how your town differs (historical infrastructure, museum, parks), and extend an invitation for a tour. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an editor. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of why your town is different could be more detailed to fully satisfy the 'well-developed' criteria of higher bands. The response is clear and maintains a consistent position throughout, meeting the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However', 'On the other hand', and 'I would like to', which help the reader follow your argument. While the structure is clear, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing is functional but could be more sophisticated. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the progression of ideas is logical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'infrastructure', 'maintained', and 'arrangements'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'restraunts' (restaurants) and 'largers areas' (large areas). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct spelling of common terms. The current range is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it does not show a wide range of less common lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'a town centres' (a town centre), 'similar with' (similar to), and 'request you to if you can' (request you to see if you can). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the salutation and closing. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
