IELTS Writing Task 1 question

You have just read an article in a national newspaper which claims that town centres in your country all look very similar to each other. You don't fully agree with this opinion.

Write a letter to the editor of the newspaper. In your letter

• say which points in the article you agree with
• explain ways in which your town centre is different from most other town centres
• offer to give a guided tour of your town to the writer of the article

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in response to the article recently published in your newspaper about town centres looking very similar to one another. Although I agree with some of the points mentioned in the article, I do not completely agree with the overall opinion.

I agree that many town centres have similar shops and facilities. For example, large clothing stores, supermarkets, coffee shops, and fast-food restaurants can be found in many different towns. As a result, some town centres can feel quite similar, especially when they are part of the same shopping chains.

However, my town centre is quite different from many others. It has several small local shops and traditional markets that sell products made by local people. There is also an old historical building in the centre, which attracts many visitors. In addition, my town has a beautiful public park and a lively cultural area where local festivals and community events are held. These features give the town centre its own unique character.

I would be very happy to give the writer of the article a guided tour of my town. I could show them the local market, historical buildings, parks, and other places that make my town different. I believe this would give the writer a better understanding of the variety that exists between town centres.
