Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this email to express my concern regarding an article in your national newspaper claims false information that majorities of town centers are similar to each other.

Despite many wrong information in an article, few points are absolutely correct about similarity for many town centers in our country. Firstly, just like other places, visitors can finds varieties of shops consists of food, souvenir, and garments shops. Secondly, just like others, its right that you visitors can see playgrounds and garden for their spending their time.

However, many information in news letter us not true as per our town center. Just like other town, you will not see that market in our center is open till 24 hours due to strict rules and regulations. Moreover, our region is very narrow, therefore it is the best to hangout by walking instead of using a motor vehicle. At last, other than different towns, visitors have an opportunity to the sun set at sunset point, which is very famous in area.

Furthermore, there are plenty of tours travel agency, which give best package for visiting our town center with best deal. Otherwise, the best way if you want to decide tour, I suggest to visit mall road, where you can see many shops. After that you can visit the historical museum, where you get a change to know about origin for our town. At the end in evening, you can head towards sunset point to witness the best evening of whole day.

Let me know if you need additional information regarding visiting our town center.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Yours sincerely,

Sagar

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state your partial agreement, describe specific features of your town, and offer a tour. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While you mention the sunset point and the museum, the explanation of why your town is different is occasionally vague or repetitive. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an editor, though some phrasing is slightly informal. To improve, ensure that your arguments are more clearly linked to the central claim of the article to provide a more cohesive rebuttal.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'However', and 'Moreover' to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'At last' or 'At the end in evening'. Additionally, some sentences lack smooth transitions, making the flow feel a bit disjointed. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the connection between ideas could be strengthened to improve the overall progression of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, covering topics like tourism and urban features. There are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'majorities of town centers' instead of 'the majority of town centres' and 'tours travel agency' instead of 'tour agencies'. Some phrasing is also repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'town center'. While your meaning is always clear, the lack of precision and occasional awkward phrasing limit your score in this criterion. Expanding your vocabulary to include more idiomatic expressions or precise collocations would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include incorrect article usage ('in an article', 'the sun set'), subject-verb agreement ('visitors can finds'), and prepositional errors ('origin for our town'). While these errors do not typically impede communication, they are persistent enough to affect the overall fluency of the writing. To reach a higher band, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with articles, pluralisation, and verb forms, and try to vary your sentence structures with more complex clauses.
