You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to give my opinion about similarity between the town centers. However, both of them have some distinct features from each other.

To begin with, I have read it in the article about similarities between two town centers like recreational activities , education facilities etc. However, my town center has less population compare to the others and we have different diversity of people live here. These are the ways that town centers looks different from each other. However, I would like to give you a guided tour of my town in next month. If you are available to come and visit my town in next month then I am happy to give you the tour. However, if it does not work for you then I can rearrange the guided tour on any alternative day. I hope this information would be helpful to you.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours Sincerely.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points, but the development is somewhat limited. You acknowledge the article's points regarding recreational and educational facilities, explain your town's uniqueness through population size and diversity, and offer a tour. However, the explanation of why your town is different is quite brief and lacks specific detail, which prevents a more thorough development of ideas. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an editor, though the opening is slightly confusing as it refers to 'both of them' without clearly defining the two entities being compared. To improve, ensure each point is expanded with more descriptive detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is repetitive and sometimes mechanical. For instance, you use the word 'However' at the start of almost every sentence, which disrupts the flow and makes the writing feel disjointed. While you use some linking words, the range is limited. To achieve a higher band, try to vary your transition words (e.g., 'Furthermore,' 'In contrast,' 'Consequently') and ensure that referencing is clear throughout the text to guide the reader more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'different' and 'similarities' repeatedly. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'different diversity of people' and 'less population compare to the others'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of vocabulary related to urban planning or community life. The current range is sufficient to communicate your message, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or sophistication required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'I have read it in the article about similarities' (unnecessary 'it'), 'town centers looks different' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'in next month' (incorrect preposition usage). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and prepositions of time to improve your accuracy. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining control would also be beneficial.
