Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate addresses all three bullet points required in the prompt. The response begins by expressing disagreement with the newspaper article regarding town similarity and modern amenities. It then highlights specific features of the writer's town, such as being a UNESCO world heritage city and having bustling markets with distinct facilities like Law Garden and Bhadra Bazar. Finally, it offers to provide a guided tour and short travel experience to the writer. While the ideas are relevant, some parts like the description of tourist impacts and markets are slightly under-developed or expressed with limited clarity. Overall, the task is adequately fulfilled, earning a band score of 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, body points, and conclusion appropriately. The writer attempts to use cohesive devices such as 'to commence with' and 'on the other hand' to guide the reader through the letter. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in phrases like 'This all are bustling markets' and 'Due to this article, many of them will not satisfied'. Paragraphing is present, but logical progression between ideas is occasionally disrupted by awkward sentence transitions. This corresponds to the band 6.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'vibrant city', 'UNESCO world heritage city', and 'contemporary facilities'. However, there are noticeable lexical and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'similarity in structures... which not true', 'I am disagree on that statement', 'distinct facilities' instead of 'distinctive facilities', and 'get you experience'. Spelling and word-choice errors are present but they generally do not impede overall communication. These features align with a band 6.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complexity often result in grammatical errors. Examples of errors include 'It is stated that my town has similarity in structures..., which not true', 'It is also mentions that', 'This all are bustling markets', and 'and it lead no tourism at all'. Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent in places. Despite these errors, the meaning remains mostly clear to the reader, and basic sentence structures are handled adequately. This performance fits the criteria for band 5.5.
