Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions: the writer states agreement regarding town centre similarities, explains specific ways their town differs by mentioning regional characteristics and the Mumbai location, and offers a guided tour. However, the response has not met the minimum length requirement, containing only 136 words compared to the required 150 words. This under-length impacts the overall development of ideas, leaving points such as the explanation of differences somewhat brief and undeveloped. Consequently, the task achievement is constrained. Band 5 is appropriate because the task is only partially addressed due to the length shortfall and limited idea expansion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter opens with the required greeting 'Dear Sir or Madam,' and attempts to organise thoughts into paragraphs. However, logical progression is hindered by frequent structural and grammatical breakdowns. Cohesive devices are used at times, such as 'In addtion' and 'Moreover', but referencing is often unclear, as seen in phrases like 'try to change related to their'. Paragraphing is present, though the final paragraph trails off incompletely ('as, I will be free next month from work ,also hav f'). This lack of completion and overall organisational stability aligns best with a Band 5 descriptor, where some organisation is evident but overall progression is lacking and cohesion is faulty.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including words like 'elaborate', 'cuisine', 'transportation', and 'distict'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors that impede understanding, such as 'visible same' instead of 'look the same', 'living style' instead of 'lifestyle', 'distict' for 'distinct', and 'uniquie insted' for 'unique instead'. These frequent inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling restrict the vocabulary to a limited, minimally adequate range that causes some difficulty for the reader. This performance fits the Band 5 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional structures ('If you would like to visit this towncentre ,I will come...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in verb forms, word order, and prepositions, including 'facilities are change according the state', 'facilities provided which make uniquie', and missing words ('every state has different religion , living style and many more'). Furthermore, punctuation is erratic, and the sentence structure breaks down entirely at the very end of the text. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, a Band 5 score is warranted.
