- offer to give a guided tour of your town to the writer of the article
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my views on your latest article to which I am not fully agree, as the town centre in my locality is bit different from other town centres.
In every country, the town centres has immense number of shops and ample parking space which causes air pollution, traffic congestion and create problems to the pedestrians. Some of these things are similar in our town centre.
However, in our area, the government took the initiative last year to make fringe parking spaces for the public, so that they can park outside the centre and people do foot shopping which increases the profits of the local shops. Moreover, here is an in-built library which I never seen at other town centres.
I would really glad to offer you a guided tour of my town, so that I can show you the real difference which cannot be explained fully in a letter, and give me a chance of your hospitality. After experiencing it on your own, you can give a better view in your upcoming articles.
I will look forward to your reply and let me know what you think when you have a moment.
Yours faithfully,
Roopkamal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully covered all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You acknowledged the newspaper article and stated which points you agreed with, specifically mentioning the issues of pollution, traffic congestion, and pedestrian problems associated with town centres. You then clearly explained how your local town centre differs by mentioning the government initiative for fringe parking and the in-built library. Finally, you offered a guided tour of the town to the writer. Your purpose is clear throughout the letter and your ideas are well-developed for a General Training Task 1 response, earning a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter has a clear overall progression and logical organization. You utilized appropriate formatting with a standard greeting and sign-off, and grouped your thoughts into coherent paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'In every country' were used to connect your ideas. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally felt slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition between the general problems in paragraph two and the specific local solutions in paragraph three could be smoother. Overall, the logical structure makes the letter easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for this general task, using terms such as 'traffic congestion', 'pedestrians', and 'government initiative'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, writing 'to which I am not fully agree' instead of 'agree with', and 'do foot shopping' instead of 'go shopping on foot'. You also used the phrase 'which I never seen' omitting the auxiliary 'have'. While you attempted some less common vocabulary, these errors show a need for greater precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You used a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses such as 'which causes air pollution' and conditional ideas. However, grammatical errors are noticeable and occasionally impede clarity. Notable errors include 'the town centres has' (subject-verb agreement), 'which I am not fully agree', and 'which I never seen at other town centres' (missing auxiliary verb and preposition choice). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical control needs improvement for higher bands.
